REALITY ONLINE

For years the Rhino has had that fantasy many have had, what if I when I died I could just jump into cyberspace and live there for eternity. Those perfect recipes shown online mmm. The beautiful landscapes, interesting videos, and of course all those babes you see online. All would be part of our eternal online world.

Tonight while reading INC magazine, (2/07) I noticed two articles that made such a dream less of a fantasy. The first story is about the Exponential pace at which information technology is growing. It talked about "energy becoming information technology dominated by massively parallel, computation-controlled molecular manufacturing process." Most of what they were referring to was the improvement of solar panels at an exponential rate but the article alluded to all kinds of predictable changes in information technology as a catalyst for change. It made the assertion that information technology doubles in price performance and power each year. The conversion step from Rhino to virtual Rhino is that a weird idea given these accelerated changes?

The very next article talked about a place in the computer called Second Life. "It is a richly detailed virtual world where ANYTHING a computer programer can imagine can exist." Will these be the virtual communities we live in for eternity if we choose. Will the mind be encircuted in the computer to live on the virtual plane doing things that make sense in the terrestrial world or will there be new interactions not conceived of yet but developed in these communities.

What of the Rhino’s soul? Will moving into the virtual world delay spiritual growth in some kind of ascention plan? Will music be unnecessary and will we feel things in there? Many opportunities and fascination await all of us. Like the old question, If your belly button was a pleasure button how often would you push it? The Rhino would push it whenever possible.

Open up that virtual gate cyber space here I come!
